My Theory

I think women are more prone to depression as a rule because we take on more responsibilities in society. At least in the 50 and over generation, men work........leaving most of the family responsibilities and worries to the women in the house. Women work.....and also carry all the other responsibilities of the household on their shoulders. Child rearing, arranging child care, homework, after school activities, taking care of parents, taking care of your spouses parents, remembering birthdays, holidays, and all other family activities as well as staying involved in the community. Men just show up. I don't mean to sound angry here...I am really over it. As women we have to make our sons more responsible in the future to share the family stresses with their wives.

Betray Ourselves
by: Meg

I think people who want to please others or worry about how others think about themselves, often betray themselves.

They will say 'yes' when they mean 'no. They will say 'no' when they mean 'yes'. To others and to themselves. Betraying ourselves is one of the biggest source of depression.

Another is believing who we are as what others say we are. If someone say you are beautiful, wonderful, intelligent, you believe it. You are happy. When someone say you are ugly, awful, stupid, you believe it. You are miserable.

How you feel moment by moment depends on what OTHER people say, their opinion of you. You are terrified to 'not please' them as they may turn on you, since your whole life's happiness depends on other's opinion.

Well, there are almost 7 billion people on this planet. If your happiness and self esteem depends on OTHER people, you will be split into 7 billion faces to please everyone.

It is impossible. No wonder so many people are depressed. Just please yourself. That's easy. Doable. And makes you happy. And others will respect you for it. And if not, find a new friend. There are almost 7 billion people here. You won't run out anytime soon.
