Depression Test

Which online Depression test is for Me?

depression test

A depression test or even all depression tests might be problematic to fill and evaluate. Most depression screening instruments are long and time-consuming. In addition, the result of a depression self test do not always characterize your state consistently.

Frankly to say, a depression test really scores how many special symptoms, regarded important by the creator of the test, you have and how sever they are. The judgment of the severity of symptoms is always questionable. However, the greatest problem with a depression self test is the unique nature of depression.

Thus, I must emphasize, you MUST NOT rely on a depression test when you are uncertain about your psychological state.

As you can read on What is depression page, diagnosing depression is not easy and simple. Psychiatry defines depression as a presence of some special depression symptoms. However, the exact expression of these symptoms is always difficult. That is the core problem of all depression tests.

The most established and recognized collection of symptoms and criteria of diagnosis is to be found in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) published by the American Psychiatric Association.

The main features of depression, according to the above book, are a two-week history of depressed mood and loss of interest in most activities. And here we are. What is depressed mood exactly, and what is a loss of interest, exactly?

Fighting to believe, fighting to hope, fighting to see the light, but you are blind. All your hopes vanish with the wind. You reach out your hand for help, but you are turned away, Shunned from society, and outcast. You don’t belong. Your soul dissolves into the mist.Skylar

We formulated two simple questions to catch the above symptoms:

  1. During the past month, have you often been bothered by feeling down, depressed or hopeless? (Often means: almost every day.)

  2. During the past month, have you often been bothered by little interest or pleasure in doing things? (Often means: almost every day.)

If your answers are "NO" to both questions of the above depression screening, you are very unlikely to have depression.

But what if you are not sure in your answers, or you have one or two "YES"?

To help you in the exploration of your mental and emotional state we listed and grouped some depression tests, you may use. As tests are thought to be administered by experts, the language -- you may imagine -- is not a plain english.

Thus we rewrote and commented the questions, to make them more intelligible and easy to understand.

All depression tests, listed, are online depression tests. You'll have the scoring and evaluation after completing the list. You should not send the questionnaire and wait for the evaluation. All tests are free.

But be aware of the limits of a depression self test. Do not trust the results! These tests should be evaluated by professionals -- and you are probably not an expert in diagnosing depression.

Consider the depression test as an orienting tool only, and if the results are ambiguous or you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
